At home and family workouts!

One of the most common things I hear from moms and busy women is “How do I workout at home?” Between busy schedules and tight budgets this is a very important thing to know how to do. I go to the gym most days that I workout. However, if I have a sick child or something comes up to where I can’t make it to the gym, I simply break out my dumbbells and wing it from my living room!   I would like to preface this blog by noting the fact that I am, for the most part, self taught when it comes to weight lifting. As I mentioned in a previous blog I did not play sports or do anything athletic growing up. I never even entered a weight room until I was an adult. And even then, I still didn’t really know what to do in there. Which brings me to my first tip on how to effectively have home workouts: 1.)     Utilize your resources! I started learning about exercise and strength training from studying my ass off about it! Anything and everything a person wants to know these days is on th

My food recipes and ingredients

I have been requested to provide a more detailed explanation of my food prep, so here it is! Meats can be prepared several different ways such as grilling, baking, sautéing, using a slow cooker, etc. This is simply how I prefer my food to be cooked. I keep it very simple, using only seasonings, salts and some butters. I do cook with real butter, I just watch the portions. I don't like margarine as I feel it just a bowl of chemicals! I use butter spray sparingly for the same reason. It's not real food. Please feel free to ask any questions if any of this is unclear! So here goes, this is what I cook weekly: Turkey patties -I use lean ground turkey to make patties and cook on stovetop using Italian seasoning, garlic salt, black pepper. Chicken - I buy frozen chicken strips and cook these on the stove top. Leave the pan lid on so that the steam will thaw the frozen middle of the chicken better. I use different seasonings depending on what I feel like making that day. Fo

How to have a social life and still be healthy!

Have you ever been trying to lose weight and eat healthy, only to have your friends and family inviting you out for food and/or drinks? And seemingly sabotaging all your hard work??? Well, the good news is you don’t have to be a home body in order to eat well, and you also don’t have to binge every time you leave your house! Here are a few tips for how to eat out at restaurants and still have a social life while staying on your journey to being fit! 1.)     Do your research! In the age of Google and smart phones, you have NO REASON not to investigate where you will be eating and what their food consists of! 99% of restaurants (both sit down and fast food) have their nutrition information posted on their web sites. In addition, there are multiple apps such as My Fitness Pal and Fooducate that can be used in order to pull up nutrition facts even when you’re not at home. Compare what the various entrees and appetizers consist of and have a game plan for before you go out.

Health vs Aesthetics

Take this scenario… You’re motivated to start a new workout and/or diet program! You stay dedicated and on your “A” game …until 1 week, 2 weeks or even a month goes by... You don’t get the results you expected (aka the numbers on the scale don’t drop as you had planned they would) and you get discouraged and give up. Sound familiar…??? I want women to retrain their brains! I want the focus on exercise and healthy eating to be a lifestyle , NOT a means to an end! The goal should not be a pre-determined set weight or pants size, but to feel better and have more energy. Would you rather be thin, yet you're tired, have no energy and are hungry all day…OR not necessarily be the dress size you may want to be… but feel good, be strong and have the stamina to run and play with your kids all day? My inspiration for this blog comes from recent personal experience. When I got out of school for the summer, I had this idea in my head of how my summer would go…. Working out every day,
